Betty S. Shockley, age 75 passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019, at her daughters home in Freeburg.
Betty was born December 8, 1943, in Washington, a daughter, to the late Joseph and Mildred (Cahill) Haines.
Betty was a lifelong area resident and attended the Bland school system.
In January of 1959 she was united in marriage to Edward Shockley in Vichy. Edward preceded her in death on October 25, 1994.
Betty loved to clean and worked as a caretaker in the area helping those in need. She loved to shop at local stores where they knew her by name. Betty liked growing flowers, reading books and newspapers, listening to older country music but above all, she loved spending time with her family.
Betty is survived by: three sons, Eddie Shockley and his wife Darla of St. James, Matt Shockley and his wife Amy of St. James, and Josh Thornhill and his wife Crystal of St. James; four daughters, Kim Workman and her husband Raymond of Vichy, Pam Mitchell of Jefferson City, Lisa Shockley of Belle, and Misty Bland and her husband Rex of Freeburg; twenty one grandchildren; twenty nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Haines of Owensville, Billy Haines and his wife Marilynn of Vichy and Kenny Haines of Owensville; three sisters, Carolyn Francis and her husband Mike of Texas, Linda Morelock and her husband Larry of Alabama, and Rita Potts and her husband Sammy of Vichy as well as many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty is preceded in death by two daughter, Tonia Spurgeon and Tina Shockley, two sisters, Cindy Price and JoAnn Vandegriffe, grandson, Robbie Marquart, and a sister-in-law, Robin Haines.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Jack Vincent officiating. Interment will be in Campbell Cemetery.
