Chester Raymond Steen of Belle died Sunday morning, March 14, 2010, at the Harry S. Truman Veterans hospital in Columbia. He was 87. Chester was born on June 5, 1922, in Phelps county. He is the son of the late John Logan and Orpha Mae White Steen. On July 6, 1956, Chester was married to Cora Cook and to this union seven children were born.
Surviving Chester is his wife Cora, five daughters Rhonda Bates with her friend Jack Repp, Janella Fredendall with her husband Zack, Valerie Steen with her friend Billy Cooksey, Shelly Schweer with her husband Jeff, and Phyllis Bufford, and one son Chester Raymond Jr. " Pete" of Belle. Also surviving are two brothers Harold Steen with his wife Carla of Tuscumbia and James Alfred Steen with his wife Shirley of St. James. There are 14 grand children and 18 great grand children.
Chester is preceded in death by a son Randy Mark, four brothers Arthur, Oscar, Jackson, and Earl Jr., and one sister Lorene Pedroli.
Chester had suffered for several years with a vascular disease complicated by diabetes. He was a decorated Army veterans serving in World War II. Chester and Cora were members of the Liberty Church of Christ.
