Conrad Lewis Gehlert of Belle died late Wednesday evening, September 16, 2009, in his home at the age of 74. Connie was born on August 18, 1935, in Maries County. He is one of twelve children born of the late John Edward and Laura Danuser Gehlert. On June 8, 1957, Connie was married to Mary Dautenhahn in the Lutheran Church in Belle. They were proud parents of five sons.
Surviving Connie is his wife Mary and sons Tim, Andy with his wife Felicia, John with his wife Allis, Richard with his wife Cheri, and Butch with his wife Christie. There are fifteen grand children Mandy Seaver with her husband Josh, Adam with his wife Amber, Abbie Kinkaid with her husband Brett, Amie, Ben, Bryce, Kolton and Lacey Clark, Zach, Nick, Isaiah, Thatcher, Jessie, Tori, and Tucker, and six great grand children Jebadiah and Adison Seaver, Natalie and Garrett Gehlert, Landrie Payne and Jack Kinkaid. Also surviving Connie is one sister Nadine White and five brothers, Ronnie with his wife Clarissa, Gordon "Pete" with his wife Judy, Gary with his wife Joyce, Randall with his wife Donna, and Robert with his wife Rita.
Connie is preceded in death by one sister Faye White and four brothers Alfred, Edward Lee, Charles "Butch", and Thomas Gehlert.
Connie was a master craftsman and carpenter. He worked a lifetime in the building trades including twelve years teaching the building trades classes in the Belle Schools. After his retirement Connie took time to craft wagons, buildings, hammers and axes for all the grand kids. He enjoyed being on the farm, playing the mandolin and bluegrass music. He loved his grand kids, their wiffle ball games and dancing. He gave each of his grand kids a nickname.
Connie and Mary enjoyed 52 wonderful years together.
