Dororthy “Dot” M. Smith, passed away on March 23, 2024 at the Capital Regional Medical Center.
She was born on June 14, 1935, in Owensville, a daughter to the late Thomas Henry and Odessa Elizabeth (Howard) Woemmel.
Dorothy was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was very active and served as the song leader for 50 years.
Dorothy was employed at the S&S packing company in Bland for 22 years.
On February 23, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dwight “Moody” L. Smith. He preceded her in death on October 16, 2007.
Dorothy was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening and canning what she gathered from the garden, and singing. She was an amazing cook and was known for her fried chicken. Dorothy was kind, giving, and was very positive. She always seemed to be laughing as she enjoyed life to the fullest. She read her bible daily, loved her church and her faith in God was strong. Above all, her greatest times were spent with her family and friends and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she adored. She will be missed tremendously by her by her family, friends, church family and anyone who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived by seven children, Tom Smith and his wife Jackie of Bland, Ralph Smith and his wife Patsy of Bland, Carol Scego and her husband Tommy of Owensville, Debbie Dozier and her husband Craig of Bland, Steve Smith and his wife Linda of Vienna, Mark Smith and his wife Beverly Belle, and James Smith and his significant other Peggy; and 38 grand and great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephew, extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by one great grandson Hayden Wolfe and three siblings Norma Enke, Raymond Woemmel, and Sharon Miles.
Visitation for Dorothy will be on Thursday, Marh 28, 2024 at the crossroads Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with Danny Jarvis officiating. Interment will be in the Campbell Cemetery.
Expression of sympathy may be made to the Crossroads Baptist Church or the Campbell Cemetery
