Dorothy Nie, age 80, of Summerfield, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
Dorothy was born June 9, 1938, in rural Osage county, a daughter to the late Sylvester and Trullie (Jarvis) Hammack.
Dorothy was a lifelong area resident and a member of the Pilot Knob Baptist Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Belle High School.
On June 3, 1956, Dorothy was united in marriage to Walter Eugene Nie at the Koenig Methodist Church. Walter survives of their home near Summerfield.
Dorothy worked at the Belle Variety Store for many years and then was employed at the Missouri Department of Revenue for 19 years.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, and doing word search puzzles. She liked exercising at the Gasconade Manor and having "tea parties" at McDonalds with the ladies from town. Dorothy was known as the "Candy Lady" and always had a bag of candy ready to hand out to people. She was called Maw Maw, Grandma Dorothy, and Aunt Dorothy by many and will be missed greatly by those and all that knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband of 63 years, Dorothy is survived by: one daughter, Carol Sue (Massey) Withouse: three grandchildren, Josh Withouse and his wife Robbi, Jeri Nelson, and Brenda Wieberg; and five great-grandchildren, Samantha Salters and Taylor Withouse, Kitley and Kaden Nelson, and Chase Buddemeyer. Also surviving is one brother-in-law, Donald Nie and his wife Jane; one niece, Amy Jones and husband Lucas; one nephew, Danny Nie and Robin; three great-nieces, Mea Jones, Aurora Pfeiffer, and Victoria Pfeiffer; and one great-nephew, Dalton Jones; as well as many extended family members and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by two son-in-law's, Rick Massey and Kit Withouse.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Sassmann's Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Kevin Runge officiating. Interment will follow in the Schanning cemetery.
