Gerald "Jerry" D. Dorrough, age 82, of Bland, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City with his family by his side. .
Jerry was born on March 7, 1932, in Paris, Arkansas, a son to the late Bufford and Ollie (Scribner) Dorrough. .
Jerry attended school in Paris, Arkansas. He proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for four and a half years.
On December 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Shirley Durbin in Bland. From this union, four children were born. Shirley survives of their home in Bland.
Jerry was a Carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #2298. He worked for Hensley Construction in St. Louis, as well as many other contractors and built every house that he and Shirley ever owned.
Jerry had been a resident of the area for 61 years. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and enjoyed working on his farm, fishing, and hunting. His greatest love though, was spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Jerry is survived by: two sons, David Wayne Dorrough and his wife Kathy of Kansas City and Ricky Dean Dorrough and his wife Pam of Owensville; one daughter, Connie Rena of Bland; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, three sisters, and four brothers as well as many extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bufford and Ollie Dorrough; one infant daughter, Debbie Jean Dorrough; one sister and five brothers.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Sassmann's Chapel in Bland.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Crossroads Baptist Church near Bland with Rev. Danny Jarvis officiating. Interment will be held at Bland Union Cemetery with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the family of Jerry Dorrough.
