Grace D. Spurgeon

Grace DeLois Spurgeon, age 91 of Bland, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017 at SSM Health St. Mary’s in Jefferson City.

She was born January 5, 1926, a daughter of Ernest & Ruth (Enloe) Williams.

Grace was united in marriage on May 18, 1944, to Charles O. Spurgeon. He preceded her in death February 22, 1984. To this union were born four children: Michael Spurgeon and wife Linda of Steelville, Mitchell Spurgeon and wife Charlotte of Cuba, Terrllyne and husband Roger Stockton of Bland, and Merrilee Spurgeon of Bland. Grace’s family also included thirteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Grace was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bourbon. After her family moved to Bland she attended First Baptist Church in Bland.

Grace and her husband Charles were lifelong farmers in the Cuba area and were owners of the Bland Dairy Freeze for 23 years. After the death of her husband she worked for the Dollar General store in Owensville.

Grace loved to read books, listen to country music, and make potato salad for family gatherings. She loved her grandkids, and to her, they were all great. And above all, what not too many families have the opportunity to do, watch the 5th generation. Babies are the most precious gifts from God and she loved to hold them, sing a jingle or two, and watch them play.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband Charles, her parents, her parents-in-law, one brother, four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and one great grandson.

Grace is also survived by one brother, Ernest Williams of AZ, many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Visitation for Grace will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Bland.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Bland with Tim Edwards officiating. Interment will be held in the Licklider Cemetery at Jake Prairie.
