Harold Lee McCoy, age 80, of Wheatland unexpectedly passed away at Highland hospital in Oakland, California, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
Harold was born July 24, 1944, in Hermitage, Missouri, a son to the late Joseph Emmett McCoy and Carrie Fern (Ferguson) McCoy.
Harold was united in marriage to Mary J. Hoyt and to this union one son Thomas R. (Toby) was born, she preceded him in death on August 14, 1982. He was later married to Sherry P. Ross who had two sons Kelly and Brian. They later divorced.
He was a graduate of Hermitage High School. Harold received his degree in science education from UCM Warrensburg and was a science teacher for a few years. He went back to school at Truman State University where he obtained his master’s degree in education and worked as a superintendent for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement, Harold went back to work as an over the road truck driver allowing him to see the country and its many unique places up until his death.
Harold enjoyed fishing trips, watching football on mute, time spent fishing on Pomme de Terre Lake and his fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed watching the races and boat races at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland. But above all the time spent with his family.
Harold is survived by: three sons, Thomas R. (Toby) McCoy and his wife Kathy of Belle, Kelly Schroeder and his wife Marcie of Belle, and Brian Schroeder and his wife Gretchen of Bland; fourteen grandchildren, Austin McCoy, Dominic McCoy, Alyssa McCoy, Britani Elrod and Lucas Elrod, Tanner Schroeder, Logan Schroeder, Parker Stockton, Aspyn Schroeder, Loudyn Schroeder, Easton Schroeder, Cole Iten, and Cale Iten, Hunter Schroeder, Kyli Schroeder; fifteen great-grandchildren, Kelhen, Kandyn, Bryer, Brayden, Zayne, Lyla, Wade, Kinsley, Baby Adeline, Alec, Kooper, Payslee, Avery, Amelia, and Zakai; dear friend Love Crawford and Loyal companion Pippa; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harold was preceded in death by: one sister, Joe Anna McCoy.
A celebration of life will be arranged by his family and announced at a later date.
