James “Jim” Barbour Baldwin, Jr, age 84, of Belle, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023 at his residence.
Jim was born December 21, 1938 in Front Royal Virginia, a son to the late James Barbour Baldwin, Sr and Margaurite (Elliott) Baldwin.
He graduated from High School in Warren County Virginia and following high school, proudly served his country in the United States Army.
On November 22, 1996, he was united in marriage to Joan Heimann in Oklahoma. Their marriage was blessed by the Catholic Church on December 8, 2010. Joan survives of their home in Belle.
Jim was a longtime area resident and a member of the St Alexander’s Catholic Church in Belle where he sat on the parish council for several years. His faith in God was strong and it showed in the way he lived his life. Jim was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as the district deputy for a time. He also served as the state advocate to the Missouri Knights of Columbus, a chairman of the Missouri Catholic Conference, was commander of the honor guard, and a member of American Legion Post #317.
Jim served as a police officer in Alexandra, Va for a time but his lifelong occupation was rodeoing. Jim began at the age of 17 and continued until his health declined. Jim could do it all, Ferrier, roping, riding bulls and broncs and more. He loved the rodeo life. Of course, being in the rodeo he had a fondness for horses and continued to raise and care for his own until his death. Jim also enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading westerns like Louis Lamour and horse magazines, and watching John Wayne movies. He was a kind and generous man who loved children and would dress as Santa every year at the four way and give out bags of candy to the children. Most of all, Jim loved the time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Jim will be on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at St. Alexanders Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Mark Porterfield officiating.
In addition to his wife Joan, Jim is survived by: three sons, James Barbour Baldwin, III and his wife Mary of Labadie, David Elliott Baldwin of Pacific, and Patrick Lee Baldwin of St. Louis; three grandchildren, little David Baldwin, Zachary Baldwin, and James Barbour Baldwin IV; and three great grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
