Jerry L. Shockley, age 82, of Belle, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
Jerry was born January 23, 1941, in Rolla, a son to the late John Edward and Veta May (Gibbons) Shockley.
Jerry was a longtime area resident. In 1960, Jerry joined the armed forces and proudly served his country in the United States Army.
On May 31, 1964 Jerry was united in marriage to Judith Lange at the First Baptist Church in Belle. They later divorced. Jerry later married Charlotte Mitchell in 1970 at the justice of the piece. They divorced later as well. Both survive of their homes.
Jerry had been employed at General Motors in St. Louis for over 50 years finally retiring in 1991.
Jerry always liked keeping busy and being on the go. He enjoyed working with his flowers, making walking sticks, or tinkering with things and making sure they were just right. He was very generous and would help out others in need and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing when he was younger and as he got older, he enjoyed trips around town and visiting with the locals at Granny’s restaurant in Bland. Most of all, Jerry was a family man and loved time spent with his family. He will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved him.
Jerry is survived by: one daughter, Sheila Cook of Belle and one son Doug Shockley of St. Peters; two grandchildren, Stephanie Scott and Nicholas Stenson; four great grandchildren, Braeden Green and his fiancé Olivia Sanders, Triniti Scott, Tatum Scott, and Nihilus White; and one sister, Virginia Woolley as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery Shockley, one brother, Leonard Shockley, and one sister, Verlee Backues.
Visitation for Jerry will be on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will following the Skaggs Chapel Cemetery with full military honors.
