John Robert Hawkins,67, of Owensville, died February 26, 2012 at Capital Regional Hospital in Jefferson City surrounded by his family. John was born on January 5, 1945 in St. Louis to the late Merle Alvin Hawkins and Edith Catherine Hawkins. John was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Merle.Surviving John is his daughter Kelly, of Owensville, four sisters, Marlene Smith and her husband John of Brinkley, AR, Karen Lange and her husband James of Belle, Jean Michel and her husband Bruce of Owensville, Mary Lou Hinton and her husband Sonny of Chesapeake, VA, one sister-in-law, Joann Roche of St. Louis, and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much.John worked for the United States Postal Service for the past 32 years serving as a rural carrier on Route 1 out of Bland his entire career. He was transferred to Owensville Post office in August of this year where he continued to faithfully serve his Route 1 patrons.He was recently granted the Million Mile Safety Award for 30 years of service or a million miles without an accident. John was very involved in the Rural Carriers Union. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending school ballgames, and spending time with his family and friends. Anyone who knew John, knew he loved to laugh. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.
