John T. Mahaney, age 74, of Belle departed this life on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:30 p.m. at the Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia surrounded by his loving siblings.
John was born February 21, 1947, at home near Vichy, a son to the late Ivan and Mae (Wilson) Mahaney.
He was a 1965 graduate of Belle High School.
John entered into the United States Army on December 7, 1965, and proudly served until December 6, 1971, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th. John was awarded with a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal showing he was a man of excellent character and as a testimony of his honest and faithful service to his country.
John was a member of the VFW post 3410 of Belle and a member of the High Gate Baptist Church in High Gate.
During his working life he was employed with the Maries County RII School District as a Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement in 2008.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially Prairie Dog hunting in Kansas with his friends.
John is survived by: siblings, Bonnie Davis and her husband Donnie, Mike Mahaney and his wife Ida, and MaryAnn Honse; Sister in law, Brenda Mahaney; special friend, Gary Wiles; special Family, Billy and Mike Drewel, Reven Newbound and his children Cooper, Addysan, and Kiah along with many other extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Roger Mahaney, Norman “Chub” Mahaney and his wife Sharron, Theodore “Ted” Mahaney, Jerry Mahaney, and Robert “Bob” Mahaney; brother in law, Danny Honse; and nephew Robbie Mahaney.
Keeping with John’s wishes of cremation his cremains will be laid to rest Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 3:00p.m. at Skaggs Chapel Cemetery with full Military Honors.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Skaggs Chapel.
