Joyce Mildred McKinney

Joyce Mildred McKinney age 85 of Belle, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Gasconade Manor in Owensville.

Joyce was born July 20, 1938, in Bland, a daughter to the late Albert and Freda (Overstreet) Horstman.

Joyce was a 1956 graduate of Bland High School.

On March 14, 1970, she was united in marriage to Oscar Conrad McKinney at the U.C.C. Church in Bland. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2022.

Joyce was employed over the years by the Debs and Brown shoe factories, EC Robertson lumberyard as well as the Owensville License Bureau where she worked for over 15 years. She finished up her work years at Jens Place.

She and her husband attended the Zion Evangelical Free Church in Bland where she had served as the Pre-school Sunday school teacher for over 20 years.

Joyce enjoyed gardening, embroidery and flowers. She was an avid St Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan with her favorite player being Patrick Mahomes. She loved to listen to gospel and bluegrass music and in her younger years she played softball. She was known for her great sense of humor.

Joyce is survived by: one daughter, Tamela Carwile of Owensville; one son Rocky Horstman of Belle; two grandchildren, Cory Carwile of Jefferson City and Ethan Carwile of Springfield; two brothers, Fred (Juanita) Horstman of Foley and Albert (Marie) Horstman of Cannan; four sisters, Inez Ahrens of Bourbon, Minnie Jarvis of Bland, Georgia (Robert) Mitchell of Sullivan and Marilyn (Tom) Mounce of Steelville as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that she thought more as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and spouse of 52 years, Joyce was preceded in death by one son, Jerry McKinney, a brother Randall Horstman a sister Hilda Maness an infant sister, Alberta Faye and her son-in-law, Scott Carwile.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Zion Free Evangelical Church in Bland. A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Shane Jarvis officiating. Interment will be at a later date next to her husband in the Old Bland Cemetery.
