Juanita Mae Thompson

Juanita Mae (Cox) Thompson passed away at home on October 7, 2019. She was born November 18, 1946 in Clovis, New Mexico to James Claeborn and Eva Mae (Shipp) Cox. She grew up on a dairy farm in Floyd, New Mexico. She joined the Seventh-Day Adventist church as a child and was a member of the Rolla SDA Church.

 Juanita graduated from Union College in Lincoln,  Nebraska with a BS degree in Secretarial Science in 1969. After meeting Lenard, they were pen pals while he was serving in Vietnam and were married January 17, 1971, after his discharge. She was a homemaker while raising their four children and later worked several years as a secretary in many agencies for the State of Missouri. Juanita’s hobbies included making cards, scrapbooking,  and sewing. She spent many hours gardening and playing the piano. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

They are preceded in death by their parents, son Keith E. Thompson, Juanita’s sister Dorothy Nell Cox, brother-in-laws Risk Gayed and Kenny Rollins, Lenard’s sister Lois Verl Harrison, and nephew Jonathan Harrison.    

They are survived by daughters Darla (Gary) Schneider of Hermann, MO, Karen  Thompson of Jefferson City, MO, one son Joseph L. Thompson of Belle, MO, four grandchildren: Arthur, Claire, Lydia, and Garret Schneider of Hermann,  MO, Juanita’s sisters: Bobbie Jean Gayed of Lincoln, NE, Mary (Bob) Tipps of Midland, TX, and her twin Oneta (Lee) Lambert of Lincoln,  NE, Lenard’s siblings: Carolyn Rollins from Cicero, IN,  Donna (Mike) Caplinger of House Springs, MO, Ira (Diana) Thompson of Belle, MO, and brother-in-law Michael Harrison of Brush, CO, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Lenard and Juanita will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 in the Francis Cemetery near Belle with Rodney Osborne officiating.
