Laverna V. Groff

Laverna V. Groff, age 80 of Bland, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Frene Valley Nursing Home in Owensville.

Laverna was born May 4, 1933, in Bland, a daughter to the late Ben and Lena (Czeschin) Pope.

On August 18, 1951, she was united in marriage to Andrew Russell Groff in Salem, AR. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1999.

Laverna was a homemaker and had worked at the International Shoe Factory in Bland and Freeman Hill. She was baptized at St. Paul E & R Church in Bay, MO and a member of Canann Methodist Church.

Laverna enjoyed gardening, quilting and crocheting and loved spending time with her three grandchildren.

Laverna is survived by: one son, Dennis A. Groff and one daughter, Barbara Jean and her husband Donald Limberg all of Bland; three grandchildren, Kelly, Nathan and Kurtis Limberg; two sisters, Thelma Berkemeyer of Arnold, MO and Lorene Betz of St. Louis, and many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: one brother, Marvin Pope; one sister, Leona Marcus; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arthur Berkemeyer, Ralph Betz, Carroll Marcus, Leona Pope, Rose and Silas Groff, Oscar and Louella Groff, Odie and Georgie Groff, Ollie and Leora Groff, Bill and Etta Heyer, Eva and Jesse Roberts, and Mary and Cap Roberts.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Sassmann's Chapel in Bland.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Sassmann's Chapel in Bland with Bruce Elmore officiating. Interment will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens in Owensville.
