Martin Calvin Jones, age 86, of Belle, passed away Friday, October 25, 2024, at the St. James Veteran Home.
Martin was born August 16, 1938, in St. James a son to the late John and Gladys (James) Jones.
He was a graduate of Belle High School and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Belle. Following high school, Martin attended the Baptist Bible College in Boliver and taught in a country school for a couple of years before going to work for A.S.C.S. Martin was then drafted into the United States Army in 1961 and proudly served his country overseas. Following his discharge, Martin went back to work at A.S.C.S. and retired from there after 35 years of employment.
On February 1, 1964, Martin was united in marriage to Mary Ann Griffith at the preacher Jetts home in Bland. Mary Ann survives of their home in Belle.
Martin a was a longtime member of the Belle Masonic Lodge #373 and received his 50 year pin a few years ago. He loved going to car shows and was very good at identifying the year, make and model of any car he would see. Martin enjoyed traveling with his family once or twice a year, both in the United States as well as overseas. He was a kindhearted and giving man who loved visiting with friends, and most of all, spending time with his family. Martin will be missed greatly by his family and those that knew him.
In addition to his wife, Martin is survived by: one son, Thomas Joe Jones of Lake Jackson, Tx; two grandchildren, Jinger and Kelsey Jones; four great-grandchildren, Landyn, Bristol, Lakelyn, and Layton as well as many extended family members and friends.
Martin was preceded in death by one son, Mark Jones and his parents, John and Gladys Jones.
Graveside services for Martin will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 in the Liberty Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Liberty Cemetery fund.
