Melvin L. Ratliff of St. Louis, formerly of Bland, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in the St. Anthony's hospital in St. Louis. Melvin was born on October 6th, 1935, in Kewanee, Missouri. He is the son of the late William Franklin Ratliff and Maredith Dewitt Ratliff. Mel was married to Connie Pointer.
Mel worked and retired after 30 years with General Motors in St. Louis. A few years before his retirement, Mel and Connie bought a small farm near Bland. They lived on the farm for several years after retirement but decided to return to the city.
Surviving Mel is his wife Connie and their family, Rick Krietemeyer, Kim Johns, David Ratliff, Barry Ratliff, Scott Ratliff, Mark Ratliff, Keith Giesler, and Sandra Roeger. Also surviving are two sisters Violet Hadley and Oma June Medlin. There are 13 grand children and 3 great grand children.
Mel is preceded in death by a daughter Tammy, a grandson Josh, three sisters Carol, Gloria, and Hilda, and one brother William Ratliff.
Mel was baptized in the Apostolic Faith Pentecostal Church.
Services for Melvin will be at noon on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Sassmann Chapel in Bland. Visitation will be on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 10am at Sassmann Chapel in Bland. Interment will be at College Hill Cemetery in Belle.
