Mildred Ann Margaret Buehrlen, age 74, of Belle, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City.
Mildred was born May 8, 1948, in Jefferson City, a daughter to the late Alfred and Henrietta (Holtmeyer) Schaffer.
On February 14, 1996 she was united in marriage to Johnie Buehrlen. Johnie preceded her in death on November 9, 2020.
Mildred was employed at Brown Shoe in both Belle and Owensville for over 15 years and volunteered at C.A.S for a time as well as going over the road with Johnie. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Belle helping with VBS as well as other activities.
Mildred enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading books, and watching her soaps like the Bold and the Beautiful. She liked to keep busy and was always on the go raising chickens, gardening, canning, and cooking wonderful desserts and other meals her family would enjoy. Mildred was the matriarch of the family following her mothers passing and dropped out of school in the 8th grade to help raise her siblings. She was a wonderful woman who always seem to put her needs last and others first. Mildred greatest joy came from time spent with her family and especially her grandkids. She will be missed greatly by those that loved her.
Mildred is survived by: four children, Terry Sauer and his significant other, Diane Crider of Belle, Tina Sauer of Belle, Theresa Bray and her husband Chris of Belle, and Amanda VanOstran and her significant other Justin Flowers of Byron; ten grandchildren, Shanae Crider, Tyler Sauer, Garret Bialczyk, Harley Bialczyk, Trey Bray, Emmalynn Flowers, Skyelynn Flowers, Gracelynn Flowers, Nathan Sauer and Hunter Denich; six great-grandchildren with one on the way; six step-children, Larry Buehrlen, Paul Buehrlen, Mike Buehrlen, Randy Buehrlen, Donnie Buehrlen, and Terry Helmig; nine siblings, Conrad Schaffer of Jefferson City, Eugene Schaffer of Columbia, Bernadine Ousley and her husband Richard of Russellville, Louella Stuart of Fulton, Alfred Schaffer, Jr of Holts Summit, Johnetta Schaffer of Linn, Alvin Schaffer of Jefferson City, Milissa Brinker and her husband Gerald of Union, and Kimberly Schaffer of Jefferson City; a special friend and caretaker, Leslie Lee; and two doggies, Sandy and Sadie as well as many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Sauer, a granddaughter, Chelsey Bray, and two brothers, Markus and Charles Schaffer.
A visitation for Mildred will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In keeping with Mildreds wishes her body will be cremated following the visitation and a memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle.
