Nora June Spurgeon, 88, of Belle, MO passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.
June was born on April 10, 1931, in Rolla, MO a daughter to the late John and Florence (Mitchell) Meurer.
June was united in marriage to Samuel Ray “Sonny” Spurgeon on July 2, 1955.
She attended church at Highgate Baptist Church where she’s been a member since November 20, 1955. She was active in the church, a Sunday school teacher, council member and involved in the activities and fellowship committees for many years.
Before starting her family, June worked at Rice-Stix Dress Factory for thirteen years. She farmed alongside her husband and son the rest of her life. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family whom she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florence Meurer and an infant daughter, Vanessa June.
June is survived by: her husband, Ray “Sonny” Spurgeon; son, Dennis Spurgeon and his wife Donna; two grandsons, Dustin Spurgeon and his wife Dani and Dean Spurgeon; four great-grandchildren, Isaiah Spurgeon, Michael Spurgeon, Gabriel Spurgeon, and Kiara Beck; and two brothers, Frank Meurer and John Meurer as well as many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the Highgate Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Highgate Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Highgate Baptist Church.
