Norman "Gus" R. Drewel

Norman R. (Gus) Drewel, age 79, of Belle, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James.

Norman was born November 16, 1934 in Belle, a son to the late Charles and Flora (Aytes) Drewel.

In 1952, Norman graduated from Belle High School where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He went on to serve in the US Army.

On October 29, 1960, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Weller at the First Baptist Church of Belle. She survives of the home.

Norman was one of the oldest members of First Baptist Church of Belle where he served as a deacon and trustee for many years.

In 1991, after working for 23 years on the assembly line, Norman retired from the Chrysler plant in Fenton. He was a member of the United Auto Workers.

Norman also drove a school bus for the Belle School District. He enjoyed driving for the basketball games. His lifelong passions included hunting and cattle farming.

In addition to his wife, Norman is survived by his two daughters: Stacey and her husband Robert Gelven of Northville, MI and April and her husband Dennis Noblett of Belle; one brother, Kenneth and his wife Lorene Drewel of Belle; one sister, Wanda Campbell of Belle; four grandchildren, Derek and Dylan Gelven, Amber Gehlert, and Jamie Eldredge; five great-grandchildren, Natalie, Garrett, Riley, Reagan, and Taylor as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Belle. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. James Bickell, Bro. Lyle Coleman, and Bro. Philip Rector officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the Countryside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Owensville.

Expression of sympathy may be made to the First Baptist Church of Belle, the Alzheimer's Association, or the Missouri Veterans Home of St. James.
