Robert Lee "Rabbit" Nilges

Robert Lee Nilges of Belle died Saturday morning, January 22, 2011, in the St. Mary's hospital in Jefferson City. He was 70. Robert, also known as Rabbit, was born on June 16, 1940, in Osage County. He is the son of the late Herman and Tillie Wolfe Nilges.
Robert was married to Janet Seymour and later remarried to Marcella Schulte.
Surviving Robert are his children, Greg Nilges with his wife Diane of Heidelberg, Germany, Robbie Nilges with his wife Hope of Belle, Rita Polly and friend Bruce Wansing of Jefferson City, Tina Sohn with her husband Bruce of St. Clair, and Robin Crabtree with her friend Don Harris also of Jefferson City. Also surviving Robert is a sister Marie Eversmeyer of Pocahontas, Arkansas. There are 14 grand children and 5 great grand children.
Preceding Robert in death is his wife Marcella who passed away in August of 2007. Also preceding Robert is a daughter Lori Femrite, two brothers Norbert and Al Nilges and a sister Lorene Krone.
Robert was retired after 30 years with Kingsford Charcoal. For many years Robert volunteered as the Fire Chief of the Belle Volunteer Fire Department. He also served his community as an Alderman for the City of Belle. Robert was a faithful and proud member of the St. Alexander's Catholic Church in Belle.
