Rodney Gene Kottwitz, age 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 14, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Rodney was born on April 6, 1956, in Rolla, Missouri, to the late Eugene & Wanda Kottwitz.
A dedicated student, he graduated as valedictorian from Linn Technical College—now State Technical College of Missouri— earning an Associate of Technology Degree in Electronics Technology.
Rodney built an exceptional 45-year career in the energy industry, beginning with Continental Pipeline in 1979. He remained with the company through its transitions to Conoco, ConocoPhillips, and later Phillips 6 6, retiring on May 31, 2022, after 43 years of service. Even in retirement, his passion for his work led him to continue contracting with Phillips 66 through Airswift for two more years. He was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
His career took him from Missouri to Houston, Denver, Ponca City, and back to Houston. He touched lives wherever he went, serving as a constant testimony of God’s love and faithfulness.
Rodney’s life took a beautiful turn when he met the love of his life, Vicki, at a church Christmas Party in December 2010. They married on December 22, 2011, and Rodney willingly and joyfully embraced the role of father to: Morgan (14), Kayli (10), and Jon Clark (7). On June 28, 2023, he legally adopted them, though he had been their dad from the moment he met them. He took immense pride and joy in walking both Morgan and Kayli down the aisle in 2023. His heart was fuller still when he became "Pop" to his grandson, Witt Alan Lunsford, on July 27, 2024.
In August 2023, Rodney was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme(GBM). He fought his battle with courage, unwavering faith, and a commitment to spread love and serve others with an even greater purpose. He was a faithful servant and a warrior until the very end.
Rodney leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, integrity, and strength. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a cherished friend. He enjoyed both golf, fishing, and serving the church. His kindness, wisdom, and steadfast faith touched countless lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene & Wanda Kottwitz. He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicki; his children, Morgan Lunsford (and husband, Nigel), Kayli Webber (and husband, Joshua), and Jon Clark Bull; his grandson, Witt; and his loyal basset hound, Levi.
Rodney’s life was a testament to the power of love and faith. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
