Ruth May Buddemeyer was born August 29, 1928, on her family farm outside of Belle, Mo, the daughter of Fred and Oma Shockley. She passed away peacefully at her century farm, south of Bland, on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the age of 93.
Ruth was married to Calvin C. Buddemeyer on July 12, 1945. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1980. They were the parents of seven children: Bill (Sandy) Buddemeyer, Bland; Richard (JoAnn) Buddemeyer, Bland; Sheila Bossaller, Bland; Harold Buddemeyer, Belle; Barb (Gary) Schaller, Belle; Donna (Leon) Roberson, Bland; and John (Amy) Buddemeyer, Bland.
As a young lady, Ruth held down many part-time and summer jobs before graduating from Belle High School in 1945. Ruth taught school at the Bulk Elk country school in the fall of 1945. She worked for the Brown Shoe Company for 28 years, retiring in 1991, all while raising her family. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Owensville V.F.W Post #6133 Ladies Auxiliary.
Family was always most important to Ruth, and she showed that love by the delicious meals she prepared and the clothes she sewed for her family. In her spare time, she loved to quilt, embroidery, maintain two gardens, canning fruits and vegetables from those gardens, and becoming locally famous for her dill pickles! She shared all that she created with family and friends all her life.
Ruth is survived by her brother, Stanley Shockley, Owensville, and will be missed by her seven children, their spouses, 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ethel Hollingsworth, and grandsons Josh Buddemeyer and Festus Bossaller.
