Terry C. Abel, age 94, of Belle, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the Stonebridge of Owensville Nursing Facility.
Terry was born July 14, 1930, in Belle, a son to the late Floyd C. and Mabel (Johnson) Abel.
On August 28, 1949, he was united in marriage to Doris Birdsong. Doris preceded him in death on September 5, 2021 after 72 years of marriage.
Terry was a 1948 graduate of Belle High School and a longtime member of Belle First Baptist Church.
Terry began operating the ABC store in 1949 after inheriting it from family. Together, with Doris, they ran it for 67 years until fire took it from them.
Terry enjoyed golfing, wood carving, watching game shows, and playing cards with friends on Friday nights. He liked to hunt quail locally, pheasant in South Dakota and fishing the Gasconade every Thursday with his cousin Cecil. Above all, Terry loved the times spent with his family and especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He will be missed tremendously by his family, friends, and community.
Terry is survived by: one daughter, Terra Sue Abel of Jefferson City; one son, Ty Abel and his wife Beverly of Belle; six grandchildren, Sonya Hance and her husband Arthur, Sara Clime and her husband Craig, Emily Kempker and her husband Darrin, Tori Snitker and her husband Shannon, Shay Abel and his wife Victoria, and Kaci Jones and her husband Gavin; twelve great-grandchildren, Arthur Lee Hance and his wife Jordan, Mallory Siegler and her husband Logan. Catelyne Hayes and her husband Colin, Cade Snitker, Connor Clime, Edie Kemker, T.J. Clime, Kylea Kempker, Lydia Jones, Chloe Jones, Landri Abel, and Harrison Abel; and seven great-great-grandchildren, Brooks Hance, Blair Siegler, Raylee Hance, Harlyn Siegler, Aspyn Siegler, Charlee Hance, and Merrick Siegler and one on the way as well as many extended family members and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Terry was preceded in death by one sister, Patsy Wallace.
Visitation for Terry will be on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at the First Baptist Church in Belle from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Monday at the First Baptist Church in Belle beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Kevin Runge officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Cemetery.
Expression of sympathy may be made to the Maries RII scholarship fund in Terry’s name.
