Vera Jean Thompson

Vera Jean Thompson, age 88, of Bland, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Gasconade Manor in Owensville.

She was born at home in Bland on December 15, 1935, a daughter to the late Victor and Bessie (Yoakum) Jett.

Vera was a 1954 graduate of Bland High School and a member of the Bland Baptist Church.

On February 9, 1957 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Russell “Tom” Thompson in Bland. He preceded her in death on December 27, 2015.

Vera had been employed at International Shoe in both Belle and Bland and retired from Lincoln University after 10 years as a payroll accountant. After retirement, Vera worked for the City of Belle and the City of Bland as a court clerk.

While at Lincoln, Vera took art classes and learned to draw which she enjoyed. She liked to cook and was known for her spaghetti and her chocolate sheet cake. Her hobbies included watching the Hallmark channel as well as mysteries on the BBC channel and reading mystery novels. Vera was very social and loved visiting with friends at local restaurants, the grocery store or wherever she may have ran into someone she knew.
