Verl Jewel Mallow Oliver, of Springfield, formerly of Belle, Missouri, passed away Wednesday morning March 11, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO. Verl was 93, and had spent the past 10 years in Springfield at The Gardens after moving there to be closer to her daughter Beth Hall. Verl was born on June 27, 1926 in Vichy, MO. She was the youngest child of Oda A. Mallow and Lucy Davis Mallow. On August 17, 1946, Verl was married to Harold W. (Bud) Oliver in Belle, MO, and to this union four children were born [Jack, Jim, Harold Jr (Buddy). and Beth].
Proceeding her in death are her parents, a son Harold (Buddy) Oliver, Jr., and brothers Alison Mallow and Harl Mallow, and sisters Geraldine Nichols and Vada Cook.
Surviving Verl is a daughter, Beth Hall (David) of Springfield, MO, and two sons Jack Oliver (Sandy) of St. Louis, MO, Jim Oliver (Joyce) of South Carolina, grandson Alex Oliver (Lisa) and great grandchildren Jack and Emma of St. Charles, MO and grandson Adam Oliver (Kelly) and great grandson Henry of St. Louis, MO, and Jim Oliver (Joyce) of North Augusta, SC, granddaughter Victoria Busbee (Scott) and great granddaughter Caroline of Columbia, SC and granddaughter Anastasia Oliver of North Augusta, SC.
Also surviving Verl is an army of cousins and extended family and friends from Missouri, Kentucky, Ohio, Kansas, California, Vermont, Florida, and South Carolina. We are so thankful to all of those “family and friends”, and especially to the management and staff at The Gardens in Springfield. Verl loved spending time with anyone who would stop and talk, taking care of “Bud” when he became blind, vacationing at the beach or lake and floating in the lazy river at any resort, teaching us how to make home-made bread, fry chicken or quail, and making life a Blessing from God. We are especially thankful that she taught us about Jesus and how He can ensure that we have an eternal life in Heaven.
Visitation for Verl will be from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Liberty Church of Christ in Belle. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Randy Carr officiating. Interment will be in Liberty Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Liberty Cemetery.
